Side reins & breastplates
FRONT TOOL, MARTINGALE AND CO.
Auxiliary reins support riders and can be used in addition to snaffles and reins. Beginners in particular can use auxiliary reins to concentrate more on their seat without disturbing the horse in the mouth. But auxiliary reins are not only useful for riders; auxiliary reins are also used when training young horses or for lunging. With this the horse can learn to stretch out and approach the bit without the rider's weight. However, auxiliary reins should only be used temporarily and as a support. They are not intended for permanent use. Waldhausen offers a wide range of articles from brands such as Waldhausen, Star or Linda Tellington Jones.
Waldhausen breastplates, auxiliary reins and triangle reins
There are various sub-categories of auxiliary reins. The Waldhausen side reins, for example, form a direct lateral connection from the girth to the horse's mouth and thus give the horse a posture in which it can move its neck. The martingale which is made of high-quality leather from brands such as Star or Waldhausen, consists of two stainless steel rings through which the reins run, prevents the horse from uncontrolled head bobbing or lifting. At the same time it does not influence the posture of the neck. It is often combined with a Waldhausen breastplate, especially for hacking or jumping. The draw rein consists of two reins which are attached to the girth between the front legs and then passed through the bit rings to the rider's hand. They should only be used by very experienced and sensitive riders.
The balance reins by Linda Tellington Jones ensure that horses learn to open up to the rider and find their balance.
